Question: I’m about to buy a new iPod of some sort, which do you think is the better option:
A 120GB iPod Classic
or
An 8 GB iPod Touch
I have about 30GB of music on my computer, and I’m leaning really heavily towards the 120 GB iPod, but an iPod Touch would be tremendously useful for me, mostly in terms of keeping up with the volume of email I receive.
Suggestions!

I like having access to my entire music library wherever I go, so I’d go for the 120 Gig. But that’s just me.
I’d lean towards the touch. I’ve been finding that it’s easy to get by with having a portion of my music with me at any given time.
On the other hand, having to actually make decisions about what to cut everytime you want to add music is probably the worst result possible (my ipods are usually at 70% capacity, so I don’t face hard decisions).
I recommend the 120G… but then again, I carry a blackberry, so the e-mail thing is a non-issue.
As a former iPod Touch user, I’ve got to WHOLEHEARTEDLY recommend the little gizmo, especially since it was just revamped (and greatly for the better, at that).
8GB of music is a ton of music, but you’re also able to fill that in with movies, music videos, video podcasts, and more (I rip my DVDs into 1GB files, so you could have 4 movies and 4,000 minutes of music on that thing).
Not to mention, I don’t think the other commenters know the power of having wireless internet at your hands at ALL TIMES. On a wired campus like Virginia’s, you will have e-mail, Facebook, Twitter, and more at your fingertips around the clock.
Bring in the 2.0 Application Store and you’ve got Twitter, location-aware apps, Flickr photo browsers, games– you name it, it’s available. Hell, download a certain free application and you can play music on your iTunes library at your desktop or laptop from your iPod Touch without even having it stored on your Touch– that’s right, through the power of streaming audio.
Trust me, there’s no possible way you’ll be disappointed with an iPod Touch.
E-mail me if you need more convincing!
The Touch is a revolutionary device, whereas the iPod is just a music player. The Touch is a joy to use, whereas an iPod just does its job.
I agree with Andy – go with the Touch. It’s a great device, and is the perfect way to stay connected all the time without needing a laptop. Just a wi-fi connection.
8GB doesn’t even fit my hip-hop collection (which is why I might go for the 16GB), but if you can stream music from your home computer, then I might get the iPod Touch, since my big concern is the quantity of music I’ll be able to carry with me.
I take it Andy is a UVA student? If not, make sure you find someone on the UVA campus whose ipod touch connects. Perhaps I’m paranoid, but the darling folks in my school’s IT shop have configured a WPA-E network that an ipod touch can’t connect to.
If I can get my Nintendo DS to connect to the school’s network, I can get my (hypothetical) iPod Touch to do the same.
